The tax system explained in beer!

Found this very interesting post about the tax system, at the Robert Group Blog

Suppose that every day, 10 men go out for beers and the bill for all 10 comes to R100…

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this…

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay R1.
The sixth would pay R3.
The seventh would pay R7..
The eighth would pay R12.
The ninth would pay R18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay R59.

SSH tunneling

I found the following very well put howto/information on http://www.debianadmin.com/

Port forwarding, or tunneling, is a way to forward otherwise insecure TCP traffic through SSH Secure Shell. You can secure for example POP3, SMTP and HTTP connections that would otherwise be insecure.

There are two kinds of port forwarding: local and remote forwarding. They are also called outgoing and incoming tunnels, respectively.

Local port forwarding forwards traffic coming to a local port to a specified remote port. For example, all traffic coming to port 1234 on the client could be forwarded to port 23 on the server (host).

Note: The value of localhost is resolved after the Secure Shell connection has been established – so when defining local forwarding (outgoing tunnels), localhost refers to the server (remote host computer) you have connected to.

ADT

ADT called a few times yesterday,  service manager and customer service.   Been dealing with Amiena  very nice lady,  and I explained to them both my actual issue with ADT is not their service,  but their pricing policy.

Amiena came back later in the day with an offer,  that we stay with them and they will meet their oppositions pricing, R275 pm and R150 pm for the pensioner.  We will go on month to month from 1st of January.  They will endeavor to set their system so we dont get increase .. increases,  if we do they will reverse them, I must just notify them.  Contract dates will be syncronised to 1st January going forward.

Service manager informed me that ADT have 10 vehicles operating in the area now.

ADT saga continues

Seems like we signed contracts that on the back page of the contract mentioned a 36 month term period. Even though those pages were not signed, and never mentioned by the sales person, ADT want to hold us to them.

I’ve made them an offer, lets see what they come back with.

ADT contract!

Further to my saga with ADT.

I received a call from them,  saying sorry I can’t terminate now but only at the end of December, as I have a 3 year contract signed in 2008.   WTF?

What contract, in 2008 I switched from telephone to radio monitoring.  The alarms have always been mine from day number 1,  so why would I sign a 3 year contract for radio monitoring,  when the radio always remains the property of ADT.  That doesnt make sense.

I gave the lady hell,  hopefully she didn’t take it personally,  but rather conveyed my disaproval with their tactics to her boss.

We will see!
